In my (unpopular) opinion, getting a raise is harder than getting a promotion. Think about it from your boss’s perspective, would you rather a) pay more money for the same service, or b) pay more money for additional responsibilities. When the economic change started in 2008, real estate attracted a lot of wealthy investors. Even today, buying, developing, and eventually selling a property is a sure way to acquire wealth. For instance, if you get a loan of around $200,000 and add your own $50,000 to buy a property that costs $250,000, then eventually sell it for $400,000, you can double your money easily.

The job market took a major hit in the 2008 recession when the unemployment rate skyrocketed to 10%. With employees scrambling for jobs, employers definitely gained the upper hand at that time, and they’ve kept it since. However, the unemployment rate has steadily declined since about 2010, and last month it dropped to the lowest point it’s been since December 2000. We’re now in a job seekers market, and the time is right for employees to take back their power. These four steps will give you a strong push in the right direction.

Rose and others looking for employment this summer: Retry the babysitting idea. Summer is a good time to babysit. Maybe volunteer a few times first and then use those families as references. Tell everyone you know that you are available to babysit. Use email, Facebook, fliers, word of mouth. Also try offering a set time every week, like Tuesday evenings form 5-9 pm in your home. Parents know they can drop off their children without calling ahead. They really appreciate that. It takes time and persistence to get the word out, butit can be done!
Your Idea. It’s not enough to say that you’re going to offer an exercise classes. The people considering your classes will want to know exactly what they are going to get for their money, and it will be up to you to explain it concisely and effectively. Understand that you’re basically giving a sales pitch to potential attendees. You’ll have to really narrow down your topic.

 Of course, I appreciate your response to my grousing and since I’m in my 2nd half of life, I know fully well that any new endeavor requires patience.  It is not being excited about the prospect of making money; it is the frustration of being led down numerous rabitt holes.  Instead of a straight forward survey, one just seems to spawn countless other questionaires. 


Two thoughts come to mind. First, at 27 you have a whole life in front of you, so whatever you do will be right if it is directed correctly. Second, pick a goal and work towards it (e.g., pay off medical debt; or pay off condo mortgage). Always remember, as you succeed in any one of these, then you can broaden out into other investments opportunities (e.g., stocks, mutual funds, real estates, etc.). The choice and timing are yours to call. My basic point; however, is while you are young “focus” on a GOAL and go after the goal aggressively.
The best way to actually earn income is by mastering affiliate marketing. Once you understand how online business works, you can generate income with almost any niche and in 100 different ways. This is my update, it’s been a couple years and I feel now is a good time for one! After my wife and I turned 30 in July I have been thinking about updating our story. We continue to prosper at what we do and have been pretty frugal since when we first posted. I finally got a raise and a promotion , which is just the start of our good luck. About two years ago we purchased land back home in PA even though we still have time left in Boston. We got an amazing deal on 2.2 acres on a golf course that now appraises for $350,000. Since the last time we spoke we have paid down debt,we have paid off both cars, my wife’s medical loans and under grad degree, also purchased about $25,000 in gold and silver. We have about $55,000 in equity in our condo in Boston and together we now have over $95,000 in 401k and Roth accts. We are working extra hard at paying down the land loan so that we will have enough equity to build a 1.5 million dollar house ($300,000) needed or 20%. We also just signed with a private practice which is going to pay my wife and I a $50,000 signing bonus and over $250,000 before taxes a year, starting in 2014. We make about $175,000 a year combined now but once my wife becomes partners at this practice she is expected to make over $750,000. So we are very lucky and well on our way! We our currently half way away to a million. Our plan is to become millionaires before we turn 35. Can we do it? Thank u Ryan for your advice. Great article! I’m doing direct selling at the moment and absolutely loving it! Never thought it would be something I would get into but when you have a strong desire to stay at home with your child everyday but still need to earn money you will give anything a go right 🙂 and I’m so glad I did. The work involved itself could not be easier, I run my business all from my phone. And I also love the personal development you gain from an industry like this, you learn so much about yourself more than you could from any job working for someone else in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong it is hard work, you have to put a lot in to be successful, but when you are putting all that time and effort into yourself and creating success for YOU rather than an employer / boss the results are so rewarding!!
